Q1. Where are you based?
We are based near the village of Sawdon. The nearest A road is the A170 from Scarborough to Pickering.
Q2. Are the cottages easy to find?
Yes. Whilst we are in a rural location, the route is straightforward. From the A170, turn onto Sawdon Lane and keep following the road through the village. You basically keep going until you come to Wellspring Farm on your left.
Q3. Where is the nearest pub?
The nearest pub is the Downe Arms in Wykeham, about a 10-minute drive away. They serve good pub food and have both indoor and outdoor seating areas.
Q4. How many cottages are there and how many do they sleep?
We have three cottages on site. Moor and Wold cottages both sleep 4 plus a baby. Vale Cottage is our accessible accommodation and sleeps up to 8 people.
Q5. Are the bedrooms en-suite?
Yes, every bedroom has an en-suite.
Q6. Are the cottages centrally heated?
Yes, we have oil fired central heating throughout the cottages.
Q7. Is there access to Wi-Fi?
Yes.
Q8. Is there mobile phone signal?
Yes, however the quality of the signal depends on your network provider.
Q9. Are there recycling facilities on site?
Yes. Please ask us for more information.
Q10. Are the cottages non-smoking?
Yes. We do not allow smoking or vaping in any of our cottages.
Q11. Do any of the cottages have accessible facilities?
Vale Cottage has an accessible ground floor including a super king-sized/twin bedroom and en-suite wet room. Please see our accessibility page for full details.
Q12. Do you accept pets?
We accept one dog in Moor Cottage and two dogs in Vale Cottage. Please note, dogs are NOT ALLOWED on the furniture or in the bedrooms and must not be left unattended during your stay with us.
Q13. Are day guests allowed?
You can have day guests but they are NOT PERMITTED to stay overnight.
Q14. What other facilities are available?
Our rose garden and summer house are lovely places to sit and relax. The enclosed orchard has picnic benches and lots of lawn space for children to play safely whilst you relax. A children’s play area will be added to the orchard next year. Vale Cottage has a designated viewing pod, where you can sit and enjoy the most incredible views of the Vale of Pickering.
Q15. Where are the nearest towns?
We are very lucky to have a number of towns within a short drive (around 30 mins or less).
These include Scarborough, Filey and Whitby (all coastal locations); Pickering, Malton and Helmsley (all market towns). Further afield lie the historic cities of York and Hull.
Of course, there are some very pretty villages in between including East and West Ayton, Ebberston, Thornton Dale, Hutton-le-Hole and Langdale End.
Q16. Where is the nearest petrol station?
In the village of East Ayton, just a 10-minute drive away.
Q17. Where is the nearest hospital?
The nearest hospital is in Scarborough.
Q18. Can you take dogs on the beaches in Scarborough, Filey and Whitby?
Dog bans are usually in force from 1st May to 30th September each year on parts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby beaches. There are some smaller beaches where you can take your dogs throughout the year including Cayton Bay. Please check the tides before you travel.
Q19. Where is the nearest supermarket?
There is a convenience store in East Ayton, next to the petrol station. There is a store in Seamer called Proudfoots. There is a large Morrisons in Eastfield and both a Sainsbury's and Tesco in Scarborough town centre. All the main supermarkets deliver to the cottages.
Q20. Can you get to Wellspring Farm by public transport?
No. If you need to travel by public transport, the nearest railway stations are Seamer and Scarborough. There is a bus route from Scarborough to Pickering, however the bus stop is some distance from our cottages. We would advise using your own transport if possible.
